We had a blast planning this “wintery” White Party event! The Heaven Event Center was the perfect location for this chic and sexy affair and the guests partied late into the night.

It was an interesting challenge to balance a club look with a holiday look. The client asked for a cool, wintery feel; at the same time, we were designing a full-blown night club experience. I feel we did well with the array of linen selections from Kirby – white fur, prismatic, spandex and “dazzle”. We used both crystal and silver colored chiavaris from A Chair Affair for the seating, in addition to the white furniture and glow cubes.

Dancers performed throughout the evening – in themed costumes, of course!

… And a good time was had by all thanks to these featured professionals:

Elisa Delgardio - 2010 Orlando WOW Award Nominee

I share this news with great pride and pleasure:  At this year’s Orlando WOW Awards, produced by the Orlando ISES Chapter, I was honored to receive the Peer of the Year Award for Wedding Professional of the Year!

While I was unable to be present at the awards ceremony due to another commitment, I was thrilled to receive the news via text and facebook messages from my colleagues – including a pic of the award envelope!

Criteria for the Peer of the Year Award requires that nominees are members in a participating professional association – such as ISES, ABC, MPI, NACE or HSMAI. Words can’t describe how excited I was to receive the news that I had been nominated by my colleagues! (What a touching accolade!) As a nominee, I was asked by the judging committee to submit a short essay and professional bio regarding my recent accomplishments. The results of the voting were presented September 24th at the 4th Annual Orlando WOW Awards gala reception.

Just wanted to share a few pics (sneak peaks) from last weekend’s wedding!  I can’t believe that Errol Colon has already begun editing (!) and naturally I was thrilled to receive previews so soon after the event!

Ok – so I was busy as a bee last week working on special touches for a wedding that took place at Dr. Philips – a historic B&B which is part of the Courtyard at Lake Lucerne in downtown Orlando.Our client was looking for something natural and zen-ish that would work with the classic elegance of the estate house and I was delighted to guide the design elements and create finishing touches.

The color palette for the ceremony was ivory, fern green and gray, and the interior palette for the reception was amber, fern green and rustic red.  Linens were selected from BBJ Linen.

As I was shopping for ribbon and supplies to create the the programs, signage and decor elements, I came across “vine wire” and had the idea to use it in lieu of printed table numbers.  Thus, we formed all the table numbers from the vine wire and then glued them to cardstock table tents.  The look was clean but earthy, and everyone loved it!

The place card display – which I envisioned as vertical – worked out perfectly as we implemented scroll photo holders purchased from Pier 1.

Can’t wait to share more about this wonderful event!

Therefore, it’s important to carefully consider the credentials of the person or company you are trusting to fulfill your expectations and manage what oftentimes becomes an overwhelming amount of details.

Your wedding day is your day to shine!   You’ll want to pay close attention to the details – especially since everyone else surely will!

Rock that bling!

Clean your wedding jewelry and engagement ring a few days before the wedding so it sparkles like brand new!  This is simple enough to do at home – here are some great tips that will work great on gold jewelry and most precious gemstones:

1. Soak the jewelry in small bowl of warm sudsy water with a mild liquid detergent.  A soft toothbrush can be used to gently brush the jewelry while it is in the suds.  Rinse jewelry items in warm water and pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth or tissue paper.

2. Soak the jewelry in small bowl of cold water and household ammonia (half and half) for thirty minutes.  Once again a soft toothbrush can be used around the mounting.  Swish in the solution again, then rinse and air dry on a soft cloth.

3. Use a brand name liquid jewelry cleaner and follow the instructions given on the label.

4.  Using a baking soda, add a small amount of water to create a paste.  Brush on the paste with a soft toothbrush, rinse under warm running water and let air dry.

Some people swear by a solution of vinegar and warm water, while others prefer to use vodka.  I have also read about using toothpaste as a cleaner, but jewelers seem to discourage this. (Note: Toothpaste and other abrasive substances can scratch your jewelry.)

Swarovski bridal necklaces are very popular as they are much more affordable than diamonds and precious gemstones. Cleaning of your Swarovski crystal jewelry should be done on regularly basis by using warm soapy water. You can also use ultrasonic jewelery cleaner on occasional basis. After this, it should be rinsed with warm water and air dried. It’s recommended that you keep your Swarovski bridal jewelry away from make-ups, hair sprays, perfumes and other strong chemicals.

Sparkling Crystal and Glass

I have seen so many incredibly gorgeous crystal and glass pieces at weddings: from Tiffany and Wedgwood to Baccarat and Swarovski! It always surprises me that these items are often not properly cleaned before they are displayed at the wedding ceremony or reception.

All of your personal items – unity candle sets, champagne flutes, picture frames, candy decanters, etc – should be cleaned of finger prints and filmy residue, and all stickers and tags should be removed.

Tips for removing tags and merchandise labels include GooGone (my favorite), WD-40 (be careful where you use this) and the age old ‘soaking’ technique. Heating the labels with a hairdryer is also helpful in loosening the adhesive glue. Whenever possible, use cotton gloves to handle the items.

Note: Take special care when cleaning heirloom pieces. When in doubt, consult a professional jeweler.

Over 160 people attended the celebratory launch of the Orlando Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding. Over a dozen sponsors generously donated their services to create an unforgettable event designed to bring awareness to this new charitable organization dedicated to granting weddings and/or civil union ceremonies at destinations across the United States to couples who are facing terminal illness. The cocktail reception decor was branded to reflect Wish Upon a Wedding’s signature colors while the venue (Tavern on the Lake) provided the ideal environment for networking.

Today I was a kid in a candy shop – literally!

In honor of Valentine’s Day we visited Farris and Foster’s Famous Chocolate Factory in Orlando. Holy peanut-butter cups! – if you love chocolate this is the place to be!

While I could go on and on about our chocolate factory adventure, and how much fun we had, and how delicious everything was, I won’t (because you’ll be jealous!). {wink}

Instead, I’ll tell you about what a great event venue it is for parties. I mean, who wouldn’t want to come to a ‘make your own chocolate’ party? Each month, I have the privilege and the pleasure of working with Kerline Docteur PBC to coordinate networking luncheons for Central Florida members of the Association of Bridal Consultants. The purpose of the luncheons is tri-fold:

First, monthly meetings bring ABC members and potential members (guests) together to build relationships.  Vendor relationships are essential to delivering the best products and services to our clients and facilitiating ”team dynamics”.   

Second, the meetings provide a forum to educate our members.  We bring in speakers and create special programs to keep our members on the cutting edge of wedding and event design, as well as business and marketing trends.  

Third, it’s important to build the presence of ABC within our community.  ABC is an international association with a history that spans over 26 years.  With over 4,000 members located in all 50 states and in 27 countries, ABC’s  goals have always been to raise professional standards in the wedding industry and to make brides happy.  By developing an active Local Networking Group (LNG) we bring attention to the benefits of  ABC membership and showcase the professionalism of our members.    

This year (2009) shines brilliantly as one of our finest and most rewarding to date!  We have planned and coordinated nine luncheon events at venues throughout Central Florida.  In June, we held our third annual “Showers of Happiness” event to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

In July, we hosted a spectacular educational event entitled “Indian Weddings 101: Defining the Indian Wedding Experience“. For this particular event, we had engaged local Indian Wedding experts to explain the elements and cultural traditions of Hindu, Sikh and Muslim weddings.  As in years past, October marked the end of our meeting calendar and we were determined to create a memorable event! We tapped some of our best resources (members!) to provide catering, decor, entertainment and ‘enhancements’ for our event. We also had the generous support of a few friends (future members…?) and when all the elements came together the outcome was sensational!

Heather Canada, ABC of First Coast Weddings presented a very insightful educational session entitled Business Administration for Creative Types in which she shared some excellent time management and organizational techniques. After Heather’s presentation, attendees enjoyed a delicious three course luncheon prepared by the catering team at the Rosen Centre Hotel. Then we revealed a special treat: a live performance arranged by ABC member Lisa Kovach (Key Artist Group)!

We are so grateful to the long list of fabulous professionals who made our closing meeting of 2009 such an incredible success!
